The Willow School and Broadwaters' Children's Centre

Religious Education

At The Willow we support our children in developing an outstanding level of religious understanding and knowledge. We aim to do this through engagement with a range of ultimate questions about the meaning and significance of existence. We want our children to ask significant and highly reflective questions about religion and demonstrate an excellent understanding of issues related to the nature, truth and value of religion. Above all, we want our children to develop a respect for other beliefs and religions and appreciate and celebrate the diverse world in which they live. We want to equip children with not only the minimum statutory requirements of the Religious Education (RE) National Curriculum but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We plan RE using resources from Plan Bee as well as the Haringey Agreed Scheme: Awareness: Mystery and Value.

We Ensure that Children:

  • Understand that people living in Tottenham, London, The UK and around the world follow different religions and some may not follow any religion.
  • Become familiar with the names, beliefs and customs of different religions including Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Buddhism.
  • Listen to and explore a range of religious stories.
  • Have the opportunity to see, touch, handle, taste items that have an importance to religious and non-religious worldviews such as food, music, clothing, objects, books, buildings.
  • Have the opportunity to visit places of worship and buildings of religious importance.
  • Raise questions not only about their own views but also how and why these beliefs may be important to a religious or non-religious person.
